TRIO Talent Search program
Talent Search is a free US Department of Education funded program awarded to College Bridge Cafe serving 500 students annually at Fordham High School for the Arts, Fordham Leadership Academy, Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Arts, and Westchester Square Academy. The program is designed to assist first generation and low-income high school students with completing high school and pursuing post-secondary education programs.
Participants Receive the following services:
Academic advising / Mentoring
College and Financial Aid Awareness workshops
After school tutoring / Summer Academy
College campus tours
Career exploration and cultural enrichment activities
Providing and assisting in the completion of the college admissions and financial aid applications
SAT/ACT and Regents test preparatory sessions
New York Gear up program
NY GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a six-year grant awarded to College Bridge Cafe (CBC) by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation. The purpose of this US Department of Education initiative is to significantly increase the number of secondary school students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education or training. CBC NY GEARUP will work with 600 8th grade students from Harold O. Levy 52, M.S. 324 Patria Mirabal, M.S. 180 Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, and I.S. 181 Pablo Casals until they graduate from high school and enter their first year of college. Services include:
College, Career, and Financial Literacy Workshops
Academic Counseling and Mentoring
Tutoring and Test Prep
Afterschool, Saturday, and Summer Classes
College Visits
Parent and Family Engagement Activities and Services
College Access BootCamps
The College Application Boot Camp is a 4-day (24 hr.) intensive program where participants review the different components of the college application and financial aid process and work on developing their personal college application/financial aid portfolio. This program gives students a head start on preparing their college applications and ensures complete and timely submissions of their applications.
The College Application Portfolio consist of the following items:

College Application Support Workshops
The College Application Support workshop series is a 4 session mini course that supports students and their guidance counselors in the development and submission of their College Applications. Participants will review the elements of the College Application Process and understand the university systems available in New York State. They will also review the elements of a successful college essay.
The outcomes of the program will be:
1. A developed draft of CUNY App & Common Application with a focus on SUNY
schools
2. A College Essay Outline
Fafsa completion events
FAFSA Completion Events assists participants and their parent/s complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid- FAFSA. The event commences with a Financial Aid orientation workshop sponsored followed by individual support with a FAFSA volunteer providing line by line assistance while completing financial aid forms.
School Advisement Support Packages
Standard and Custom Services Packages to support the post secondary guidance curriculum in schools include Early College Awareness and/or College & Career Access Workshop sessions, College Fairs College Trips in and outside of NYC and /or Career Industry Speaker/s.
